Those crazy, hazy, lazy days of summer are almost here, and school will soon be out. What will the kids do with all that extra time? Hopefully, they will be playing games, swimming, visiting family, and doing fun new things. And READING!
Teachers know that children experience “learning loss” over the summer, and they usually spend 4-6 weeks getting the kids caught up again. One way to prevent learning loss is to spend some time reading this summer. Reading just five books will keep your child from slipping backwards in his or her reading level.
So take the 5 Book Challenge! Plan to read 5 (or more) books this summer, and prevent that pesky summer learning loss. Read a fun book, read a book about an interesting person or place, read to your little sister or even read to your dog! Just read and enjoy it, and you’ll be top of the class next year!
