On behalf of Orland Free Library, Willows Public Library, Hamilton City Library, Elk Creek Library and Bayliss Library, we are happy to announce and invite community members to come to the library to sign up for our Summer Reading Program.
The Read, Renew, Repeat Summer Reading Program launches on June 1st and concludes August 15th, but signups will take place throughout the summer. This program is for all ages and libraries will host a range of free activities to encourage and support a love of reading. Participants will win prizes for reading, including raffles for lego sets, Barnes & Noble gift cards, 3D scribble pen, and a Nintendo Switch Lite!
We’ve partnered with some local organizations to present a dynamic summer program full of events for kids and families. Orland Free Library and Willows Public Library will each host the Wild Things Animal Show on June 10th at 11:00 a.m. in Orland and 1:00 p.m. in Willows.
Special events with local organizations include Wild Things: Live Animal Show sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Honeybee Discovery Center, Glenn County Farm Bureau Glenn County Master Gardeners, and more. Look for the library table at your local school summer meal site to receive a free book for your home library when you pick up breakfast or lunch.
There’s also a serious side to summer reading. Research has shown that reading over the summer prevents reading loss. Studies also indicate students who read recreationally outperform those who don’t. Students read more when they can choose materials based on their own interests.
The Libraries are committed to supporting lifelong learning educational enrichments for all families and would like to extend a huge thank you to our sponsors who help make this happen: Beta Sigma Phi Tau Alpha chapter, Willows Pediatrics, Orland Women’s Improvement Club, Thunderhill Raceway, Willows Hardware, Central Valley Gas Storage, and Western Physical Therapy.
Please call the library in your community for more information.
