A library’s best friend is its Friends of the Library organization. The Friends of the Orland Free Library is a hard-working group of community-minded book lovers who support the library in many, many ways. We love our Friends!
The Friends support the Library by providing funds to purchase books, audiobooks, furnishings for the library, craft supplies, and other materials. They advocate for governmental support of the Library at the state and local level. They provide magazine subscriptions, microfilming of the local newspaper, and special programs for children. This week’s special event, Wild Things Inc, is being funded by the Orland Friends of the Library.
The Friends raise money in various ways, including the Book Sale, held twice a year in April and September, and the Ice Cream Social in August. Come out and enjoy ice cream, home-baked cookies, and music at this good old-fashioned community event on Sunday, August 28th.
You can become a part of this wonderful organization. Dues are $5 per year for individuals, and $6 for families. Just ask for information at the Library, or talk to a Friend at the Ice Cream Social. Volunteers are always needed to scoop ice cream, sort books, and help out in a variety of ways.
Love your Library! Become an official Friend of the Orland Free Library!
