Well today is St. Patrick’s Day and I thought it would be nice to share a lively little tune with you. This song is from the 1940 motion picture Little Nelly Kelly, based on a play by George M. Cohan. There is a preceding song in the film called the Wearing of the Green that is really quite sad. Part of the lyric goes “Oh Paddy Dear, and did you hear the news that’s going round. The shamrock is forbid by law to wear on Irish ground. St. Patrick’s name no more you’ll hear his colors can’t be seen. They’ve gone and passed a law against the wearing of the green.” You can see some different renditions of this song on YouTube, but they didn’t have the Judy Garland version. On a lighter note here is It’s a Great Day for the Irish..It’s a really fun song. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! [Also as a bonus 007 as you may have never seen him before!] Yes, Sean Connery sings!
