Today is Dick Van Dyke’s Birthday. He is truly a national treasure. He began in show business more than 60 years ago. He was born Richard Wayne Van Dyke on December 13, 1925. His earliest big success was in the theatrical version on Bye, Bye Birdie. He later went on to be in the film version. We are so lucky, here at the Library, to have The Dick Van Dyke show on DVD. It is so interesting to me that these DVDs go out all the time. You cannot put a moratorium on good entertainment! I recently read a memoir by Mr. Van Dyke called My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business. It was very entertaining and informative, and it made me want to watch all his movies and revisit The Dick Van Dyke show. That is such a great show with just a stellar cast. Most people thought that Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore were married in real life. So check out how great the chemistry was on The Dick Van Dyke show or watch Mary Poppins or read My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business [or listen to it on audiobook]. I know you will be thoroughly entertained!
