“Yes wonderful things!” was Howard Carter’s answer to his patron, Lord Carnarvon, when he got his first look into the tomb of King Tutankhamen on November 4, 1922, in what was to be their final season digging in the Valley of the Kings.
This past Wednesday marks the138th anniversary of Howard Carters birth. If you used Google for anything on that day, you would have seen their doodle treatment of this remembrance. Very cool.
I have the Dover edition of the book,”The Discovery of the Tomb of Tutankhamen”, by Howard Carter and A.C. Mace. It was originally published in 1923, and it still makes for fascinating reading. The Library has a copy of this, along with a few other books about the discovery of this most famous ancient Egyptian.
My children and I had the good fortune of seeing the last Tutankhamen traveling exhibit when it came to San Francisco a couple of years ago. Wonderful things, indeed!!
