It’s a wonderful life.

It is the holiday season and I always like a good book or movie to really get me in the mood. I usually begin with Miracle on 34th Street [because it begins on Thanksgiving]. It is based on the book by Valentine Davies. It’s a Wonderful Life is, of course, one of my favorites. It is taken from a short story by Philip Van Doren Stern. The story’s original title was “The Greatest Gift” and Mr. Stern wrote it as a Christmas card to friends and family. I was hoping to include a link to the story so you could read it, but all I could find was an outline on Wikipedia. I really love the whole idea behind the story. You might think your life doesn’t make a difference, but you never know what touches people and does make a difference. Just the phrase “A toast to my big brother George, the richest man in town” gets me all choked up. Of course Clarence’s “no man is a failure who has friends” gets me a little too. A couple more stories that really get you in the mood are,Clement C. Moore’s ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory. I usually always read Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women at this time of year as well. So there are a few of my favorites. Come visit the Library and check out something for the Holidays. Wheather it is an old favorite or a new gem, Christmas offers that special touch of something extra for all of us. Happy Holidays!
