Every year there seems to be one series that every child wants to read. There was Harry Potter, and then there was Twilight, and now there is Diary of a Wimpy Kid. They have been popular all year, and there is rarely a Wimpy Kid book on the shelf.
So what to do if you or your child wants to read a funny book about middle school kids, with lots of cartoon illustrations, but the Wimpy Kid books are always checked out?
There are other possibilities. Try one of these and see if it fits:
Amato, Mary: Drooling and Dangerous
Angleberger, Tom: The Strange Case of Origami Yoda
Benton, Jim: Dear Dumb Diary series
Bruel, Nick: Bad Kitty series
Colfer, Eoin: Legend of Spud Murphy
Look, Lenore: Alvin Ho, Allergic to Girls, School, and Other Scary Things
McDonald, Megan: Stink series
Moss, Marissa: Amelia Hits the Road
Paulsen, Gary: Dunc Breaks the Record
Pilkey, Dav: Adventures of Ook and Gluk
Scieszka, Jon: Time Warp Trio series
Vernon, Ursula: Dragonbreath series
Wight, Eric: Frankie Pickle and the Closet of Doom
Winkler, Henry: Hank Zipzer series
Any one of these will tickle your funny bone, and most of them have plenty of pictures too. Try one—you just might find a new favorite!
