Now , what does that mean – When I was a little I used to go to my grandmother’s house and listen to old records of the 1920s and 1940’s, and there was one called “Amapola”- translation of my Post: Amapola, my pretty little poppy.
The State flower of California.
Spanish Explorers named the poppy -Copa de Oro (Cup of gold) Indians often told stories of poppy blooms depositing gold on the earth. Poppies symbolize wealth and success.
But in Greek and Roman mythology – poppies were offering for the dead. Poppies symbolize sleep and death – As in the classic Movie the “Wizard of Oz”-magical poppies to make Dorothy sleep forever.
It’s funny how one single word can get your mind digging for more different meanings, then just a weed that grow on the freeway.
Amapola, lindisima amapola
