I was watching the news last night and they talked about some new photos that Life magazine has released in honor of the 1960 election of John F. Kennedy. Incredible to believe that that was 50 years ago today.  Also, I read an article that it was the anniversary of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s first joint visit to the U.S. That was in 1985. Not for the first time I thought of America’s total fascination with Britain’s Royals, and what became to be known as “Camelot”. Was there ever a more charismatic leader than JFK? It would be hard to think of one. No matter if you love Him or not, you have to admit he had a huge impact on our Country. John and Jackie were our annointed Royals and to this day they still command plenty of media coverage. As for Princess Diana, She will always be an Icon. I do think that the fact that these two dynamic people were cut down in the prime of life definitely adds to their mystique. People are always immortalized in death, and they build much more than a following. It becomes bigger than life, and takes on a life of its own. I admit for myself, I too, am enthralled with these stories and pictures. Here at the library we have dozens of books on both John F. Kennedy and Princess Diana. I know that we will always have a special place in our hearts for these remembered Icons, and I hope still more items come to light. Here is one of the pictures featured in Life. You can see the others at WWW.life.com.
